You’re probably a bit more vulnerable to rocking if you choose a smaller cruise ship, but on Allure of the Seas, it was no problem at all. If you like great food, and plenty of it, you are in for a treat! Knowing about your cruise ship, as well as the ports you visit, will benefit you in the long run. Not only can a little exploration of what your cruise ship has to offer save you time, it can reveal activities and opportunities you might not have known about. This was our first cruise and there were a few points that didn’t go as smoothly as it should have. We sailed August 19th on Rhapsody of the Seas from Limassol on a 7 night cruise to the Greek Islands and Israel.
What is it like to go on a cruise? We answer the most important questions for first-time cruisers.
Overall, Royal Caribbean ships offer the largest variety of activities and sports facilities at sea, and the newer and bigger the ship, the more it offers. Royal Caribbean Cruises has ships, crew and on-board activities that will meet your needs. We know that booking a cruise through an online travel agency can be a cumbersome experience, plus there are so many ships and destinations to choose from that can often make the process difficult and confusing. Monarch of the Seas was equipped with large swimming pools as well as a climbing wall, fitness center and spa. The ship also has a modest-sized casino that was not particularly popular with guests.

Before the board
No ship in the fleet is inherently defective, and no ship is infallible. Find out what the ship offers (and doesn’t offer), and make the right decision based on what you’re looking for in a cruise vacation. We have cruised with Royal Caribbean many times in the past and I recently booked a five night cruise from Brisbane to Sydney and Eden NSW as we specifically wanted to visit Eden. Two weeks after booking and deposit I received an email from Royal Caribbean stating that the cruise would only stop in Sydney and not Aden. I then asked Royal Caribbean to refund my deposit because they had changed the itinerary and they told me it was a non-refundable deposit.
Formal officially means suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses or evening gowns. Don't worry if you don't want to go that fancy, though. You'll see most men wearing suits or sports coats and women in cocktail dresses.
He segues into a Trump impression and then Biden falling asleep at the microphone, which gets the most laughs. As I fall asleep that night, I realize another connection I have failed to make, and one that may explain some of the diversity on this vessel—many of its passengers have served in the military. In my white robe, I am a stately presence, a refugee from a better limited series, a one-man crossover episode. (Only Suites are granted these robes to begin with.) Today, I will try many of the activities these ships have on offer to provide their clientele with a sense of never-ceasing motion.
There is far more diversity on this ship than I expected. Many couples are a testament to Loving v. Virginia, and there is a large group of folks whose T-shirts read MELANIN AT SEA / IT’S THE MELANIN FOR ME. I smile when I see them, but then some young kids from the group makes Mr. Washy Washy do a cruel, caricatured “Burger Dance” (today he is in his burger getup), and I think, Well, so much for intersectionality. This felt as groundbreaking as the first time I dared to address an American in his native tongue, as a child on a bus in Queens (“On my foot you are standing, Mister”).
Disappointing booking experience
Guests must be at least 12 months old to travel on Trans-Pacific, Trans-Atlantic, Hawaiian, some South American ships and other cruises. Individuals must be 21 years of age or older to travel unaccompanied from North America and 18 years of age for ships departing from South America, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Voyager-, Freedom-, and Oasis-class ships also feature song and dance revues, dance competitions, karaoke, and some amazing ice shows. Other specialty dining options will be familiar to Royal Cruisers, such as Chops Grille, 150 Central Park, Izumi, Hooked Seafood, Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen, Wonderland, Playmakers and Johnny Rockets.
What is Royal Caribbean's newest ship?
In addition, every ship has a least one — and sometimes many — extra-charge eateries. The most common one found across the fleet is Chops Grille, the line's signature steakhouse. Many ships also have an Italian eatery, called either Giovanni's Table or Jamie's Italian by Jamie Oliver.
The crew was outstanding- knowledgeable, efficient and had good senses of humor. Food was a little uneven in the main dining room and certainly not to pre-pandemic standards. On lobster night, my wife and I had to laugh at the smallest tails we'd ever seen. We had a three night dining package and were disappointed in Chops Grille. It was nothing special and I even had to send my first steak bad as it was overdone. The sashimi assortment was fantastic as was and the ryu futomaki roll was the best roll I've ever had.
It’s smaller than the newer Royal Caribbean ships so it doesn’t have as many attractions, but the size is easy to get around. Great 50 minute video review of a 9 day cruise out of Baltimore. “My first two cruises, on our stops, I just got off the boat and circled the port area.
Five big Quantum Class ships and three big Freedom Class ships each have total capacities ranging from around 4,500 to 5,600 passengers. Some Royal Caribbean ships even feature ice skating rinks. Over the next two years, for instance, Rhapsody of the Seas is sailing out of such less-common home ports as Colon, Panama; Cartagena, Colombia; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. For older travelers looking for a Royal Caribbean ship that isn't jammed full of children, it's hard to beat Rhapsody of the Seas. The only things you won't find are the most over-the-top Royal Caribbean attractions found on newer Royal Caribbean ships, such as zip lines, skydiving simulators and bumper car pavilions. THERE ARE BARELY 48 HOURS LEFT to the cruise, and the Icon of the Seas’ passengers are salty.
